How do you use this material?

The first step for you in using this material is simply to read it carefully yourself. Learn the answers to the various questions posed by the skeptic in this dialogue. Try to remember the answers well enough to state them in your own words. It might help you to study the dialogue together with a Christian friend, quizzing each other on how to answer each question. Use the blank pages at the end of this booklet to outline or jot notes on the material. The better you understand these ideas yourself the more easily you will be able to communicate them to someone else.

This material is also available in translated form as a separate booklet, as well as being a special section in the back of  "The Christian Worker's New Testament". So this material can be left with a person. But remember that that is not so effective a way of sharing with him as for you to talk with him at length yourself. Keep in mind that the whole conversation does not have to occur at one time; you might cover different points in various times together.

You could also use this as a discussion guide with a non‑Christian friend who is open to Christianity. His questions might not all be the same as those here, but he probably will have many similar ones, and will probably find the answers to these helpful.

Often a single contact is the only opportunity we have to share our faith with a non‑Christian. When that is the case, be sensitive to his needs; don't insist on following a set pattern of discussion; answer the questions he has then, and trust that God will bring him in contact with other Christians later who can answer more of his questions.

Yet, the most effective way to share Christ with someone is to become his friend. Show him over a period of time that you care about him. There is nothing so attractive as the love of Christ shining through you to a non‑Christian. Whenever it is possible, try to build friendships with non‑Christians; then when you share your faith with them, they will be less likely to be suspicious of your motives.

Finally, be sure to pray for the non‑Christian with whom you are sharing Christ, and for yourself, that God will give you love and wisdom and that God will clear away his objections' to the faith. Our responsibility is to take the initiative to share Christ in the power of the Spirit, and then leave the results to God.

One final word on this material—absorb what you can, master what you're capable of mastering, and don't worry about the rest. For instance, some of the questions in the book are addressed more to the scientifically‑minded individual you might run into. But if topics like entropy and the Second Law of Thermodynamics have never particularly been your bag, don't feel that you have to absorb and master everything in that particular area. Try to grasp the big idea if possible, and move on to another issue. Your goal is not to become an expert in all areas, but to increase your confidence and your overall effectiveness in handling the most commonly‑raised questions and objections. And once again-remember that the work of convicting and convincing is ultimately the responsibility of God's Spirit. He has some miraculous experiences in store for you!
