Make Your MarkChapter 7Using the Spirit Filled Life Booklet |
|
Many believers understand the truth of the gospel but do not understand the power of Christ in their lives. It could be that 90 percent of all Christians are carnal - that is, they're living defeated, unfruitful lives. If we are Spirit-filled Christians, we have the responsibility of explaining to these believers how they can trust the Lord and experience victory in their Christian lives. Since the Holy Spirit is the source of the powerful, victorious Christian life, it is imperative that we share His ministry with both new and older Christians as soon as we discover that they lack knowledge of this truth. If you haven't already, read the Chapter "The Holy Spirit: Our Power Source." It explains the ministry of the Holy Spirit in a way that has been helpful to many, many people. This booklet explains the ministry of the Holy Spirit in a way that you can easily present to other Christians, just as you present the "Knowing God Personally" booklet. See Appendix 5, "Have you made the wonderful discovery of the Spirit-filled life?" A. Reasons to share the Spirit-filled Life Booklet. 1. To show Christians how to live consistent, victorious lives. 2. To help them see that the Holy Spirit's ministry is to give power for living, to teach and to guide. 3. To offer a transferable method of explaining the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
B. When to use the Spirit-filled Life booklet. 1. After reading the "Knowing God Personally" booklet. If a person indicates that his life is represented by the circle with Christ on the throne and that he has accepted Christ into his life, say: "That's great! Tell me about how you accepted Christ." a. This will give you an opportunity to make sure that he understands what is involved in accepting Christ. b. If you are certain he does know Christ personally and has assurance of his salvation, proceed quickly through the remainder of the booklet. Then say: "There is another booklet that explains how to grow in your Christian life. It has been helpful to me in my own life. Can I explain it to you?" NOTE: If he is hesitant, make sure he understands that you aren't a "booklet person" with a rainbow of colored booklets covering all problems in the Christian life. If you are talking with a friend you know is a Christian, introduce the booklet by using one of these transitions: a. "Have you made the wonderful discovery of the Spirit-filled life?" b. "I have a booklet that explains how to live the abundant Christian life. I would like to share it with you." c. "I have found that every day can be an exciting adventure as a Christian." d. "I have discovered how to live the Christian life without feeling as though I'm on a spiritual big dipper." e. "This booklet has helped me in my Christian life. Understanding and practicing these principles has helped me eliminate my emotional ups and downs and has given me peace. After the person has agreed to listen. share the booklet in a way that will arouse his interest and keep his attention.
C. Using the Spirit-filled life booklet. 1. Take plenty of time to read the booklet through with him thoughtfully. 2. After showing him the three circles representing three kinds of life ask "Which circle best represent your life? Which circle would you like to have representing your life?" 3. When you come to the prayer "Dear Father, I need you ..." you pray first and then give your friend an opportunity to pray. 4. After the prayer continue reading to the end of the booklet.
