Sharing the Easter Story with a Book

(Recommended for kindergarten and first grade)

There is definitely not as many Easter books as there are Christmas books so please feel free to submit any great books you find to Women’s resources so we can add them to our list.

The Story of the First Easter, (Children’s Bible Classics) retold by Bill Yenne, published by Thomas Nelson 1994  The story of the first Easter is written the most simply of the three books. It is simple yet complete. It is probably best suited for the younger grades.

The Easter Story – From the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, illustrated by Cathy Ann Johnson, published by Thomas Nelson, Inc. 2001. The Easter story is a beautifully illustrated book. It is a little more lengthy therefore more useful for first or second grade.

Benjamin’s box, story by Melody Carlson and illustrations by Jack Stockman. Benjamin’s box is written from the perspective of a little boy, Benjamin, who has become a friend of Jesus. It can be read by itself or used along with the Resurrection Eggs. At the top of each page is a small picture of a colored egg that coordinates with the eggs in the Resurrection Egg kit. The book is 27 pages long with about three paragraphs on a page making it lengthy. You will want the teacher to be prepared for you to be there for a full half hour. Because of its length it may need to be reserved for the higher grades such as second through fifth grade.

The Easter Story, retold and illustrated by Carol Heyer. This book is well illustrated and was usable for the lower grades.
