If the universe began by chance, then it is governed by chance and is without purpose.  This being so, our individual lives are meaningless also.

 As Fred Hoyle, the astronomer, wrote: "Here we are in a wholly fantastic universe with scarcely a clue as to the meaning of our existence." (Nature of the Universe).  If you think logically, what you believe about the origin of things affects radically the way you live today.

 This is the dilemma of modern man expressed in his art, films, literature and music.  Take, for instance, the words of "The Who”  one of today's outstanding pop-groups specializing in progressive rock:

 I am a seeker

 I am a really desperate man.
